TUCSON, ARIZONA—Last Friday night (April 20) a family took their little 6 year old girl to a ballgame for a night of fun and excitement. Nothing appeared out of the normal and apparently the family enjoyed their night at the game. After the game the family returned home and everyone went to bed. Around 11 pm the parents of this little 6 year old girl checked on her and she was sound asleep in her

room. Again nothing appeared out of the ordinary. The parents went to bed and the next morning the girl’s mother, a nurse, got up and went off to work early in the morning as she normally did at Tucson Medical Center. Around 8 am Saturday morning the father went to wake his little girl up and discovered that she was missing from her bed. Horrified the family apparently began to search for the little girl and after 15 minutes of not being able to find her the father called police to report her missing. Police swarmed the area searching for the little girl but to no avail. A screen was discovered having been removed from the little girl’s room and reportedly the bedroom window was open. Had she climbed through the window and disappeared? Had some predator come into the little girl’s room through that window? Horror sat in as the parents, police, and the community realized the little girl was nowhere to be found.
The little 6 year old girl who has now been missing for about a week is named Isabel Calis and police are continuing their search for her. Yesterday sheriff officers searched a nearby lake but nothing was found. Police have conducted house to house searches several times and area sex offenders have been interviewed. But no clues have turned up as to what happened sometime during the night when Isabel turned up missing.
The house where Isabel is missing from is near a shopping mall and several businesses that have outdoor security cameras. Police are searching through recordings on those security cameras looking for any clues as to what might have happened. One camera is atop a security company building and that camera is a infrared camera which means it can see at night clearly. That camera is aimed towards the home where Isabel came up missing. Police are being tight lipped about the incident but apparently nothing is seen on the video from that camera. The next door neighbor has told police that last Saturday morning around 630 am her dogs and the Celis family dogs were barking wildly and she heard male voices talking outside her window. The neighbor’s bedroom is just across a brick wall from the bedroom where Isabel came up missing. The neighbor thought nothing about it and returned to sleep. She now wishes she would have gotten up and looked out of the window.
Little 6 year old Isabel Celis has disappeared apparently without a clue and police seem to be at a dead-end. US Marshal’s and the FBI have helped in the search over the past week and a special behavioral analysis team from the FBI has now been brought into the case. Earlier this week FBI brought two specially trained dogs into the home. One was a scent dog and the other a cadaver dog. The cadaver dog is trained to sniff out signs of dead human bodies and the dog did hit on something inside the home that police believed was significant. The family was removed from the home so police detectives could look for any clues of what happened. The city landfill was searched as well. Again nothing has been found and Isabel is still missing.
Police have told reporters that they have now moved out of the search phase and into the investigative phase. It is as if Isabel just disappeared into thin air but, of course, that is not possible. Something happened to her and whatever happened needs to be discovered. Earlier this week her parents made an emotional plea for her safe return and everyone is hoping that little 6 year old Isabel will be found safe.
What happened last Friday night in that home to Isabel? No one heard any screams or commotion reportedly. There are many questions surrounding her disappearance that police are attempting to answer. Strangers coming into a bedroom and kidnapping a child from their bed in the night are rare. Typically when that happens the kidnapper is someone the child knows and very often the kidnapping is part of some custody battle between parents. In this case the parents appear happily married and there appear to be no custody or domestic violence issues. If a predator entered Isabel’s room through the window then one would surmise that the child would have been crying and screaming as she’d be very frightened but that apparently is not the case in this case. No one in the home and none of the neighbors heard any screaming or crying that night. Further, the family has dogs and had a stranger come and broken into the home then surely the dogs would have alerted the family of the intruder. But none of that reportedly happened either. Except for the account from the next door neighbor who has told police that her dogs and the family’s dogs were barking wildly and “going crazy” around 630 am Saturday morning when she heard male voices outside her bedroom window talking. She thought nothing of it and went back to sleep. Who were the men by the bedroom window? What were they talking about? Where these the voices of men who took Isabel? If so, then one must ask why they would do such a thing at 630 in the morning in daylight instead of in the dark of night? And would the numerous security cameras in the neighbor not also see something?
Growing numbers of people are expressing concern about the parents of Isabel. That’s always an easy thing to do. Suspect the parents right away. Police are not being so quick about that and, in fact, they are saying everyone is a suspect at this point. Police are calling the disappearance “suspicious” and a “possible abduction.” Police have interviewed both parents and other family members but will not say if they have been cleared or not. There are two older boys in the home as well by the way although their ages are not known. Surprisingly, on the morning of Isabel’s disappearance police did not issue an Amber Alert! Police say that there are certain criteria that must be met before issuing an alert and apparently this case did not meet that criteria so no Amber Alert was ever issued for Isabel. That is strange as this was a missing child and police obviously had some reason for thinking an Amber Alert would not be productive. In fact, the police chief in Tucson has said just that to reporters. Why would Chief Roberto Villasenor think that such an alert would not produce results or important information?
Overall this case is turning out to be very strange. There seem to be few to no clues of what happened to Isabel. Whoever committed this horror did so without leaving much evidence if any. If they kidnapped her through her bedroom window then surely there would be some sort of evidence on the window in the form of DNA, hair, clothing threads, etc. But apparently none of that has been found. So how did they get the 6 year old out of the house last Friday night? Through the front door? If that is the case then that means that someone in that house that night was a part of her disappearance.
No one knows what happened to Isabel that night or where she is now. Our hope and everyone’s hope is that she is safe somewhere and our prayers are with her and the family. To wake up in the morning and discover your child is missing is a horror beyond belief. I can only imagine the horrible feelings that her parents and family must have felt that morning last Saturday. Whoever took this child must be found and Isabel must be returned to her family and safety. Whoever took this child is a real monster! Hopefully the police will get some answers as to what happened to her soon as time is of the essence is such cases.
Sadly, this case and similar cases happen far too often in our society today. They are indicative of a disturbed and sick society. It has been said that you can tell much about a society by the way it treats its children and elderly and if you look around at our society the revelation is not good. We stick our elderly away so we don’t have to see them and we seem to have many predators who like to prey on our children today. These are both signs of a sick and disturbed society and at some point we are going to have to address these issues productively and resolve them. Whoever took Isabel from her bedroom about one week ago needs to be found and brought to justice and Isabel needs to be returned to her parents. How anyone could prey upon a child is unimaginable! Obviously whoever did this is a very sick individual and should not be running free in society! Such a person should be behind bars in a cage for the rest of their natural life in my opinion. Society cannot and must not tolerate such behavior by such sick people.
There are a thousand questions now in this case as to what happened the night Isabel disappeared. All of those questions need to be answered and they will be eventually. For now prayers are needed for the safe return of Isabel to her family. Anyone with any information about last Friday night concerning this case should contact the Tucson Police or their local law enforcement agency or the FBI immediately. In child abduction cases time is highly important and missing children MUST be found as soon as possible. As the hours and days roll by the possibility of something bad happening increases. This must not be allowed to happen in this case! We will keep you updated on this case as it progresses. For fuller details and history on this case please see the below link.
