Ah Arizona……..the “good-ole boy” state is what it ought to be called instead of the Grand Canyon State because this state is as about as backwards as they come. Who can forget its being the last state in the union to recognize the Martin Luther King Holiday and Arizona only recognized it once it discovered that it was going to lose millions in convention events and tourism. Ah yes, that good-ole boy State that was the LAST state in the union to recognize Women’s Rights as well. Yes mi amigos Arizona has many badges of DIS-honor which it proudly wears on its sunken in chest. And who can forget that Arizona is the home of RACISM against Hispanics complete with Sheriff Joe’s regular raids to round up Mexican nationals? Just one more badge of dishonor the state wears, proudly.
And now Arizona is attempting to wear yet one more badge of DIS-honor on its sunken in chest and that badge of dishonor is related to ObamaCare. Seems the State of Arizona has been charging POOR people copays for medical services. These people are on Medicaid which is known as AHCCCS in Arizona because for some odd reason Arizona had to have its own indigent medicaid program in order to feel “special” or something. Anyhow, Arizona has been charging some poor people copays under Medicaid and they get away with it because they got a special waiver from the Obama Administration. Hmmmm one more “special.” Why does that word keep popping up?
Now comes news that Arizona is attempting to limit Medicaid under the ObamaCare mandate that everyone in the nation have health insurance. There is a move in the state legislature that if enacted into law would limit a poor person’s eligibility for Medicaid to a maximum of 5 years. That means after being on Medicaid for 5 years a poor person in Arizona would suddenly be thrown off Medicaid. The reasoning is that poor people need to find a job so they can buy their own health insurance and, apparently, if they don’t earn enough to get health insurance TOO BAD. Now the Center for Medicare and Medicaid and the Obama Administration have already signaled that such a limit would NOT be approved by the federal government as it clearly violates Medicaid policy and mandates so what are the Hillbilly’s in Arizona thinking?
As I mentioned prior Arizona is a good-ole boy state. You know, you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours thingy. The state seems to ignore anything and everything that has to do with reality and instead it seems to live in some sort of fantasy world that does not exist. Case in point? Arizona’s population MAJORITY is quickly becoming HISPANIC and that’s got some of the old gringos and gringas upset apparently. Oh did I mention racism in connection to Arizona? Well allow me to mention it again. Arizona also has a thriving enterprise known as the KKK and Neo-Nazis. Yes two more badges of dishonor the state wears on its sunken in chest. These two racist organizations appear to have a large membership in the state and if that doesn’t show Arizona’s racism then what does?
Arizona was also the PRIMARY state involved in Operation Fast & Furious which was the ATF’s bothched job involving US guns getting into Mexico. The end result of that was about 2K assault weapons ending up in the hands of the Mexican drug cartels! Yeah it’s yet another badge of dishonor the state wears too. Seems like any time someone wants to screw someone they involve Arizona for some odd reason. Wonder if it could be due to that good-old boy low level mentality?
Let me get to the point of my rant involving Arizona………….
Arizona keeps trying to SCREW minorities and poor people! They’ve been trying to do that for decades now. Many times they’ve succeeded in doing just that and other times not. My question is how are they getting away with it? Why does no one shine the limelight on this backwards state and expose it for what it is? That is a RACIST and PREJUDICE backwards state that needs to be reigned in! This state acts like they are living in the pre-60s and they act as though they know nothing about the Civil Rights Movement and its accomplishments across the rest of the nation. Why isn’t this state being forced to comply with those accomplishments?
I think that a recent picture that went viral not long ago tells the whole enchilada. I’m sure you’ve all seen it. It’s the one of President Obama landing in Phoenix and Arizona Governor Jan Brewer wagging her finger in his face on the tarmack as if she was some sort of school teacher correcting a child. Governor Brewer doing that demonstrated clearly that Arizona has no respect for anyone including the President of the United States. Since they don’t even respect POTUS why would they respect poor people and minorities? This state needs to be held accountable for its actions period. This state needs to be forced to join the rest of the nation and move into the 21st century. Enough of the good-old boy BULLSHIT already! America isn’t living in the pre-60s with this crapper for whites and that one for non-whites! It’s about time Arizona get on the bus with the rest of us! The whole idea of limiting Medicaid eligibility to 5 years is ridiculous and is against FEDERAL LAW. The Obama Administration should have never given Arizona permission to charge poor people copays for their Medicaid coverage and what the federal government needs to start doing is telling Arizona HELL NO!
For decades now there’s been a movement in the southeastern part of the State to leave Arizona and form a new State which some want to call Sonora Norte et al. It seems that that part of the State is more liberal and wants to join the rest of the Union and move forward unlike the remaining 90% that wants to remain stuck in some sort of pre-civil rights days nightmare. I personally think that is exactly what needs to happen and let’s have our 51st State America!
Arizona’s governors is yet another telling sign of just where the mentality in this state is at. All of its governors have been white men or white women except one. That exception was Governor Raul Castro who served as Governor of Arizona from 1975 until 1977. He was the states 14th governor and is a Mexican born American citizen, surprisingly. He was the first Mexican American to be elected Governor of the state and today he’s 97 years old and lives in the southeastern part of Arizona. He is the oldest living governor in the nation. Castro had a very distinquished career serving as a judge and county attorney. President Johnson named him as Ambassador to El Salvador in 1964 and he served as Ambassador to Bolivia until the end of 1969 as well. In 1970 he one the democratic nomination for governor but lost to the Republican incumbent Jack Williams. In 1974 Castro ran for governor again and won. He served for only 2 years as governor and then President Jimmy Carter, in 1977, named his as Ambassador to Argentina which was a post he held until 1980.
Castro is a native of Mexico and he lived in Mexico until 1926 when he came to the US and became a citizen. He enrolled in the Arizona State Teachers College in Flagstaff and graduated in 1939. That college today is Northern Arizona University. He later enrolled in law school at the University of Arizona in Tucson and was admitted to the State Bar in 1949. He practiced law for 2 years and then became a Deputy Pima County Attorney in Tucson. In 2007 NAU named the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences in his honor and in 1988 he was inducted into the NAU Althletics Hall of Fame for his participation in college in the sports of boxing and track. In 2011 NAU bestowed yet another honor on him by naming him to the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Hall of Fame. He was and still is a shining example of Hispanic Arizona, the growing majority! However, despite all this Castro had a run in with the Arizona good-ole boy/gal system in June of 2012.
On June 12, 2012 temps in southern Arizona were blazing. Castro and his caretaker were stopped by the US Border Patrol who said they had detected traces of radiation coming from his car. The Border Patrol finally determined that the radiation was due to a medical procedure Castro had undergone in Tucson the previous day. Castro and his companion were let go but not without being made to wait outside in the blazing heat of the Arizona desert for hours under a tent with no air conditioning! Ah yes, like I said, respect? Arizona seems to know nothing about the word.
So Raul Hecxtor Castro was Arizona’s one and only Hispanic governor and all the rest have been whites and you’d think with a growing Hispanic population that Arizona would have had a few more Hispanic governors. But NO DICE mi amigos! Seems the good-ole boy network in the state still has politics all wrapped up nice and tight. And there is the PROBLEMA! The ultra-conservative RACIST political machine is Arizona has got to go! This is where most of the racism and prejudice comes from. This is where the anti-poor and anti-Hispanic rhetoric is generated. For far too long Arizona politicians have gotten away with just about anything and everything and it’s time for change. Arizona has resisted every civil rights initiative in US history from day one. The state used to be part of New Mexico back in the territorial days and maybe it needs to be so again. Or maybe Arizona voters just need to clean house and clean up the gross corruption in the state’s government and send a few of their politicians to jail where they belong.
Sadly, not only in Arizona but across this nation there are some racial myths that still exist. These myths need to be exposed as false and ripped apart. One myth that Arizona seems to believe is that all poor people are just lazy and trying to get a free ride at the expense of government. Sorry mi amigos but NOT TRUE! Fact is most poor people who can work do do some type of work even though they don’t earn much as they are unskilled and in low paying jobs. There are many poor people who are actually ashamed of being on welfare and would like to not be on welfare but they can’t get off ot welfare because with no skills and being in low paying jobs they cannot support their families. They are in a no win situation. Instead of training these people and giving them new skills and better jobs states like Arizona have chosen to BLAME THE VICTIMS of the gross social and economic INEQUALITY that exists across this nation today! It’s much easier and much cheaper to just blame the victim (ie: the impoverished) and allow this myth that poor people are lazy to continue. Instead of blaming the victim and paying socio-economic reform lip service this nation seriously needs to take some ACTION and do something about the horrid treatment of the poor and racism that STILL exists especially in places like ARIZONA! And that racism is not just directed at Hispanics either. BTW within the next decades Hispanics will be the majority in America and not just Arizona according to the US Census so what then? I can hardly wait because that is when a lot of social myths in America are going to pop and be exposed for what they really are, which is, LIES! And mostly political lies maintained so corrupt politicians across this country can continue to SCAM the system. What? You didn’t know that it’s not the poor who scam the system but corrupt politicians? Wake up and smell the frijoles compadre!
